  1. Altered Art Notebook Cover

    March 22, 2011 by admin

The other day while on FB, a friend mentioned about hoping to get another hand made covered diary. I made one for her when we were like 14..haha! So while rummaging the stack of craft stash I have in my craft room, I found this A5 size notebook I bought at Daiso.

I’ve seen many crafters altered the cover of notebook and clip board. I thought perhaps I should try to make one. I also found the glossy Mod Podge I bought about 2-3 years ago. Since it should dry clear, I thought it will be a great tool to use to paste all the embellishments and the paper.

I’ve seen how Tim Holtz demo using Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi-Medium, and was really tempted to buy one. But since I have this art resolution this year to make-do-with-whatever-in-the-stash-until-I-can-buy-a-new-one, I thought well, might as well give the Mod Podge a chance. Luckily it works just fine.

I used some scrap paper from Basic Grey Perhaps line as the background paper. I found a great sentiments sticker from Kelly Panacci (you know I am such a sucker for motivational wordings) and matted it with pink (fuchsia??) plain cardstock. I distressed the edge and inked it white.

Lastly, inspired by a button video from twopeasinabucket.com, I decided to apply the Mod Podge at the right side of the cover and put as many Prima flowers I have that will go well with the color theme. I so love the outcome. Just to put on some more bling effect on the flowers, I glue rhinestones using the same Mod Podge. It dries glossy.

Now I am more excited to create more altered art notebook cover project like this. Next time I will look for notebook with plain black papers in them. Great for making art journaling.

  2. Mood Board Challenge

    March 14, 2011 by admin

Thanks to Scrap-It-Lah for running this mood board challenge. I’ve heard about mood board before but never thought about doing it for scrapbooking layout.

(Please click to see a bigger image)

It really helps me to get the feel and mood according to the pictures I’ve chosen for this challenge. I’ll tell you more about these pictures. My son has a great problem to fall asleep at night. Usually I will fall asleep before he does. What he will do is to take a few of his toys and play it by the bedside (or rather our mattress side..haha!), right at Mama’s feet while Mama tries to sleep.

So one day, when I woke up, I found his ELC car and truck toys were lining up nicely according to their type, right by the mattress – car with car, truck with cement mixer and tow truck..well, you know what I mean. I know I have to snap some pictures as a remark of his ability to categorize things. At 2 year of age, this is considered as an achievement in term of child development!

So just as the Squidoo suggests, I brought those 2 pictures to my craft room and start putting items that I see fit with the mood of the pictures. I found those pieces of paper of his hand painted art which I plan to keep and I thought, hey this will fit nicely with the color of those cars and trucks..heh!

I gathered many more possible items like ribbons, brads, and even flowers but after leaving it for 2-3 days and coming back to the room later, I decided this will do for the layout. I tried to be less critical and put on more things but somehow I realized that I am just a “less is more” type of scrapbooker.

I also found some old vellum sticker that has suitable sentiments about having a boy.

And for the title, I decided to stamp the Pebble Inc alphabet foams using acrylic paint and then spray some green paint at the back using the paint brush…(it’s kind of ad hoc decision since I didn’t want to waste the green paint). These days I use the alphabet foams (which I bought since the past 4 years but never get to use them) to teach him ABC while doing some random, fun painting.

Since my son now loves painting (or actually squeezing most of the paint out of their bottles into palette..huhu!), I decided to stamp the title with him in the play room. As you can see in the above in-the-making picture, I have to stamp twice as he smudged the first one. Well, that’s life when you have a boy..

  3. Flashback First 3D Project

    March 3, 2011 by admin

I was browsing Shirl’s craft blog and found out about this great challenge at Flashback Friday Challenge.

The Flashback Friday 8.0 is to share your first ever 3D project that you have done.

I am so shy to share mine, but the truth is, here is the minimal looking frame I made as a gift to a friend back then in 2007 using whatever scrapbooking embellishments I have that time. The entry of the novice frame is here Decorated Frame With Scrapbooking Materials.

And recently in 2010, I have made another one to be given to Hubby. I put our son’s picture in the frame so that Hubby can put in his work-from-home room.

The frame was also entered into a challenge – Flowers and Frills.

I hope you can see that I made some improvement in my crafting. Aging does make people a bit wiser over the years, I guess..haha!

  4. Card Using Kraft Paper

    February 19, 2011 by admin

It’s been a while since I last made anything that is suitable to be shared online. Of course I have made several scrapbook layout with family pictures, but that one I can’t share it here.

Thanks to my crafter friend, Shirl of Crafteeguiri who told me that I can get Kraft paper from bookstore like Popular, I finally found one in Sunway Pyramid.

The base card is the white cardstock I have. I cut the kraft paper accordingly and glued on the front side of the card.

    kraftcard

The angel stamp I got from winning the Scrap-It-Lah September challenge. I know it’s been a while since last September that I managed to use something from the RAK I won..huhu! I think the stamp is from inqueboutique.com (tried to access the website but couldn’t get through, like it’s no longer exist).

Anyhow, since I bought some Tim Holtz distress inks like Tattered Rose and a bottle of Ranger Perfect Pearls Mist, I decided to test them on a piece of drawing pad. The background paper on which I stamped the angel was the result of my experiment..heh!

I feel that I have to practise more on stamping as the result was not so smooth. In order to cover up the imperfection, I decided to use Tim Holtz Stickles by Ranger Ink on the stamped image.

    card-on-craft-table

I think I really have to spruce up my craft table as I couldn’t find the Glue Dots to stick the brown ribbon properly. But for now, I think this will do as the first card I share for 2011.

  5. The Basic Of Crochet

    February 9, 2011 by admin

Last year around August, I was so into crochet. I spent many hours searching for free patterns mostly for flowers. My main intention to learn crochet at that time is to do embellishment for hairband. Since I learned the basic of crochet by watching instructional videos on YouTube, I can only read the instruction step by step rather than read diagram.

Please click to see a larger image.

    crochetbasic

I have downloaded several free ebook patterns like crochet hats and crochet bags from crochetme.com. I think if I were to start crocheting again, I have to practice all the basic techniques like how to do chain, slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet just to name a few.

Anyone here who are also into crochet?

  6. Craft Related Books

    December 16, 2010 by admin

I bought all these wonderful craft books at the recent Big Bad Wolf sale.

For those who used to buy craft books, you will know that those kind of books are not really cheap. Some can cost almost RM100. I usually buy those imported books from ebay as they are much cheaper.

A few months ago I bought this Creative Craft Lettering Made Easy book from ebay but it was lost in mail. So when I found this book at the sale, I thought I should just buy it. If somehow the Pos Malaysia people found my lost book, then I can always give the second copy to someone else who would appreciate such craft..heh!

    craftbook1

I’ve previewed this decoupage book before on Google book and have been contemplating whether I should buy it for future reference. I could learn a new thing or two from seeing how others do decoupage using napkin. So when I found this among the craft books stack for RM12, I know I have to buy it.

    craftbook2

This Inspired By The Garden is also great as it is not restricted to decoupage. I am still browsing a few pages every night and yet to try any of the new techniques.

    craftbook3

Lastly since the art of silk flower arrangement is still alien to me, I thought it will be a great opportunity to learn the correct techniques from this Colors In Bloom book since I don’t have time to attend any practical class.

    craftbook4

I hope once my son is big enough, I will be able to decorate our home with flowers which I arrange on my own.

  7. BasicGrey Challenge #33 – Wings

    November 20, 2010 by admin

It’s been a rather hectic November with most of the family members not feeling well. I didn’t expect to take part in any challenge this month, but then my toddler son decided to spend some time in my craft room, and so here is the outcome. This is for BasicGrey Challenge #33 – Wings.

    wings1

It is really a simple card. I have stamped the bird few weeks ago and try to color it using the chalk by Pebbles Inc which I have bought for the past 4 years but never get to use it. If only I have Perfect Pearls..huhu!

    wings2

And to make sure that I fulfill the requirement of using at least one Basic Grey product, I used the sentiment “I Look Up To You!” from Basic Grey clear stamp. Usually I will use patterned paper by Basic Grey, however this time I used My Mind’s Eye. I also used embroidery floss after watching some video at twopeasinthebucket.com.

    wings3

Since I’m using patterned paper to make this card, I am entering this for Dust Off That Patterned Paper challenge at wee Memories as well.

  8. Pixie Challenge For Oct 2010

    November 5, 2010 by admin

I finally get to complete this challenge. For the month of October, the challenge at Pixie Dust Paperie is all about “SCRAP-LIFT”. What I have to do is to pick out a creation from their DT from their October post, scrap-lift, and give it a new look with my new idea.

Since I hardly do anything shabby and pink, I thought I will try to scraplift the butterfly card by Lori Hairston. Check out her original entry here – Pixie Dust Butterfly Card.

    Butterfly Card

It proves to be a real challenge, because seriously I lack of the right embellishment and tools. I don’t even have a puncher to do the scallop, so I improvised by drawing a half round shape along the paper and manually cut it using scissors..huhu!

    pixie1

I rummaged through the stash of Prima flowers and hey, I found one item that looks like butterfly. Note to myself, I need to shop for more updated embellishment.

    pixie2

Luckily I could find some sentiment that is pink. I think it must belongs to Valentine theme. I covered the chipboard with patterned paper and put the sentiment sticker on top of it. I tried not to put too much embellishment because they seem to cover the sentiment sticker.

I am thinking of adding on sentiment like Congratulations For Your New Baby Girl or even Happy Anniversary later. Marriage and parenting certainly feels that way, sometimes it is not easy, but it is certainly worth it to fight for.

Updated: I am also entering this card for wee Memories ‘Free for All’ Challenge #29.

  9. The Daily Marker Blog Candy

    October 30, 2010 by admin

    dailymarkerblogcandy

Kathy of The Daily Marker is giving away all of these stamps from Penny Black as her blog candy. I so, so want them..huhu!

You have till 5th November to take part in this fab blog candy. Check out her blog.

  10. Scrapbookers Anonymous October Challenge

    October 25, 2010 by admin

This is another challenge I’m entering for the month of October. This time it is for Scrapbookers Anonymous blog. The requirement is to use a minimum of 3 different patterned papers from 3 different manufacturers.

(Please click on the images to view a larger version)

    sba1

Most of the papers I have are from the same manufacturer i.e Basic Grey or MME so I have to really dig into my stash to see whether any of the suitable papers for this challenge come from 3 different manufacturers. I finally found 2 from Basic Grey (Scarlet’s Letter pack), one from My Mind’s Eye, one from Daisy’s D and the floral orange one from Chatterbox..phewww, all 5 papers that I bought since 2005!

    sba2

At first I planned to scrap the pictures of our trip to the beach for anniversary in 2005, but I couldn’t find papers that complemented those pictures and fulfill the requirement of this challenge. Thus I changed the subject to this blooming gardenia. The last time it bloomed was in 2008 (or was it 2007) and after that she decided to stop blooming. Until recently she decided to bloom again.

    sba3

I guess gardening is like life. You put all that you can and then what you can do is wait, pray and hope that whatever you do will be fruitful, and one day walla just as you thought you would never get what you want, life gives you the unexpected. I chose the life sentiment from Rhonna Farrer rub on to express what I feel in this layout.

    sba4

I also love the fact that I finally get to use the journaling page from Making Memories Noteworthy notebook…I have been keeping it untouched in the stash for so long. The silver sentiment “your unique gift” is from Making Memories Charmed Phrases. The ribbons and other embellishment like felt rick rack and lace are mostly from Making Memories. I am using most of the materials which I bought since 2005, the year that I starts scrapbooking seriously.

    sba5

I am all into paper distressing these days, so that’s why I distressed the paper that I used to mat the picture. For the patterned paper on the right, I decided to cut out according to the floral design and let it stick out a bit, giving a 3D effect on the layout. I thought of using flowers as additional embellishment but that would be like overshadowing the great gardenia picture I want to emphasize..heh!
