This is the demo set for bunga dulang mini I made for my February bunga dip class. Actually this is the second one I made after I lost the first set. I was not sure whether any of my students took the first demo bunga dulang but since I have to have one to show to upcoming students, I quickly made one the night before the last class.

Basically by doing this bunga dulang mini in my class, you will be able to learn on how to make the filler flowers (bunga kecil), the rose and how to combine those flowers to be a bunga dulang.

After you master the basic technique, you can add on as many filler flowers, more leaves and main roses to make a bigger and grander bunga dulang dip for your gubahan hantaran!

Check out my latest announcement for the coming class if you are interested to learn on how to make your own bunga dip for your wedding. The seats are limited and participants are on first come first serve basis.

I have to Google to find a good explanation on what is songket. Songket is a type of hand-woven traditional Malay fabric with gold and silver threads and worn mainly during official functions and ceremonies. I am fortunate to know someone whose family business is songket weaving.

She decided to go further and make use of the songket the business has and innovate it to something that more practical and widely used in Malay wedding business. We came out with this idea of bunga pahar using songket fabric crafted into the flower petals.

If you read my previous entry, in Malay wedding, bunga pahar are given to guests as souvenirs. So there are actually many designs of bunga pahar flower, some made from nylon, dip solution, beads, ribbons, organza and satin, just as much one’s creativity can stretch to.

So here is the songket bunga pahar recently made. Apart from this I also created corsages and bigger stalk of flowers to decorate hantaran using songket. Some of the samples were published in Vol.3 – Ratu Sehari – bridal magazine sold in Malaysia. Of course it doesn’t go under my brand since my friend is the one who pay for the advertisement..haha!

It’s very common in Malay wedding to see bunga pahar at the side of the dais where the bride and groom will sit for the merenjis ceremony.

This one in gold and cream nylon bunga pahar is requested recently by a client for her sister’s wedding. In Malay community in Malaysia, it is very normal for the whole big family to get involved in one’s wedding.

This bunga pahar will be fillled with boiled egg put in tulle and tied with ribbon. This bunga pahar will be put in a special vase, usually 50 sticks each side. During the merenjis ceremony, each special guest and family who takes part in the ceremony (a blessing for the couple) will be given this bunga pahar as a souvenir.

Nowadays instead of boiled eggs certain people choose to change it with potpourri, chocolates or candies. It was believed that the eggs symbolize fertility and people who attend the wedding and are given the bunga pahar with eggs will pray and hope that the couple will be blessed with many children throughout the marriage.

You have managed to make the middle part of the rose by following the steps in arranging the petals. Now we will proceed to complete the rose.

Using the curvy shaped petals, put it on every side of the middle bud of the rose. One tips is to put in between two petals so that the new petal wouldn’t be overlapping the existing petals.

After you have put about 3 curvy petals around the middle part, tie them with wire no.28 and wrap using the brown floral tape. This is to make sure that your rose will look nice without the white wire no.28 visible once the whole rose has been completed.

Continue to put other curvy petals around the rose until you satisfied with the size and the look of your rose. Repeat the process of tying and wrapping with floral tape.

Usually a medium size rose will have about 11-13 petals inclusive the middle bud. You have to rearrange the petals once you have tied and wrapped them with floral tape to make sure you have a satisfactory looking nylon rose.

You have made your first rose by learning and following all the steps online.

Once you have made all the necessary numbers of wire loops, it’s time to wrap them around the nylon material. The nylon material looks like a woman’s panty hose. It has a variety of colors.

This is how the nylon material looks like. We will start from one end, inside the nylon material.

Put the wire loop you have made earlier inside the nylon material. We want the nylon material to wrap all the front and the back of the wire loop.

The nylon material should envelope both front and back of the wire loop. It should fit snuggly but don’t stretch too hard or you will tear the material.

This is how it should be once you have stretch the nylon material nicely around the wire loop.

Once you have satisfied, use a flower wire size 28 and tie around the end of the nylon material and your wire loop.

Once you have tied the flower wire no. 28 around the material, snip the excess nylon nicely. Wrap the excess wire around the wire loop holder.

You have successfully wrap your wire loop with the nylon material! Congrats!

Since I have been conducting flower making class using nylon material for beginners level starting from last December, I have been requested to do DIY online guides for those who are unable to attend my class in Selangor.

So this is the first entry for DIY flower making class. Personally I feel that this is more suitable for intermediate level as you need to use a lot of wire loop to make the rose.

First take the wire and put it around a round bottle or plastic case. In nylon flower basic, all the wire loop should be in round shape. Check the one on the left side of the plastic case. That’s what I want to make – a rounded wire loop.

Pull the wire around the round plastic bottle and tie it in a knot.

After you have tied one end in a knot, leave another end about 1 to 1.5 inch before you cut it with wire cutter.
